Two local non-profit groups will plant three “talking trees,” native allspice trees, in former Coral Gables Mayor William Kerdyk Park on Monday, March 15, at 10 am. The park is located across the street from the Publix grocery store on Yumuri and San Remo Streets.
“The idea is for people to establish personal relations with nature by talking to the trees,” said Coral Gables nursery owner Richard Namon, co-founder of TNT4Kids. “My son Jakob and I founded the organization in 2017 to help establish connections between young people with connections between young people with personal or mental problems and nature,” he said.
The second organization, a 501c3 called IdeasForUs, -founded by Namon’s son Christopher Castro, is an international non-profit founded in 2007 committed to developing solutions to the world’s most pressing social and environmental issues. The organization is approved by the United Nations and has 30,000 members in 28 countries around the world.
“It is our hope to replicate this tree-planting event around the world,” Namon said. The event is co-sponsored by the Coral Gables Parks and Recreation Department.
